The new change in ministry for Pastor Anthony Harris from his work at St. John Baptist Church to his subsequent extended time out of the area created a vacancy on the Amarillo Area Foundation Board of Directors. Pastor Harris’ efforts and voice on our board has been vital to our work for the past four and a half years. We will miss his service, and we wish him well in his new role.
We would like to introduce you to Mr. Bowden Jones, Jr. Mr. Jones is an Executive Vice President and Chief Consumer Officer at FirstBank Southwest. Here are his thoughts on his service to our organization. Thank you, Mr. Jones, for your willingness to serve.
AAF: What are you most excited about as a new AAF Board Member?
Mr. Jones: “I am most excited about the opportunity to be involved with an organization that has a great history of helping to provide resources for our community. The AAF has been critical in helping meet the needs in all of the counties of the panhandle, and it is exciting that I get the opportunity to help with that work.”
AAF: What made you say “yes” to becoming a board member?
Mr. Jones: “I said ‘yes’ to becoming a board member because I feel like I have a background and a perspective that will contribute to the mission of AAF and ultimately the community. I believe that we all have something to give to improve our community and this is another opportunity for me to do that.”
AAF: What do you love about the Texas Panhandle?
Mr. Jones: “I love that the Texas Panhandle is so liberal in its giving. Being involved in many different organizations and being able to see how the Panhandle responds when our neighbors are in need or in times of crisis is inspiring and it is just one of the things that I love about the Texas Panhandle.”
