Mission

enhancing the local community

The THRIVE Amarillo program will invest in the success of Amarillo by providing a better educated and trained workforce through a knowledge-based economy in order to expand and enhance our local economy for future generations. THRIVE Amarillo is more than a scholarship program. It is a community-wide promise to increase student enrollment in post-secondary education. This promise offers our local students the opportunity to use their skills and talents beyond high school and on into college. These achievements will directly impact and improve the health of the Amarillo economy. THRIVE Amarillo provides eligible students a last-dollar scholarship, meaning the scholarship will cover the cost of tuition, books and mandatory fees not covered by the Pell grant and other tuition assistance programs. Students may use the scholarship at Amarillo College for up to 60-hours of course credit.

A Driver of the Local Economy

The THRIVE Amarillo Scholarship program is for all eligible students in all four Amarillo ISD high schools.

  • Amarillo High School
  • Caprock High School
  • Palo Duro High School
  • Tascosa High School

The THRVE Amarillo scholarship program is a “last money in” tuition assistance program. This means that all federal and private aid is applied toward the student’s tuition balance prior to any award made by the THRIVE Amarillo Scholarship funds.

THRIVE Amarillo Scholarship funds may only be applied to up to 60-hours of tuition, books and fees at Amarillo College.

Four community partners have committed to investing in the future success of Amarillo by dedicating funds to the THRIVE Amarillo program for the next six years. Those partners include the Amarillo Area Foundation, Amarillo College, Amarillo Independent School District and the Amarillo Economic Development Corporation. Additionally, the Amarillo Area Foundation will continue to seek and accept private funding through its foundation to further support the long term mission of the THRIVE Amarillo program.

Students may apply for funding beginning in the fall/winter of the 2017-2018 school year for funds to be applied toward the 2018-2019 school year.

THRIVE Scholarship program awards tuition assistance for credit obtained only at Amarillo College. This focus is supported by the West Texas A&M University administration, including President Walter Wendler.
